BECAUSE immigration is seen to be threatening to some vulnerable groups it could be a crucial factor in how electors vote in the General Election.
The advice Dianne Abbot gives to Ed Miliband is not to move to the Right to chase votes but adhere to a principled stand (Echo, Oct 20).
So far as immigration from the European Union countries is concerned, the die is cast. Decisions made by our governments in the past mean that there is free movement of labour.
It is unrealistic for David Cameron to want to have this changed. This places Ukip in a strong position for attracting votes from vulnerable groups.
The Labour Party is best advised to stick to its principles which should be internationalist.
