I HAVE always enjoyed watching indoor bowls and decided to take up the offer to go to the last open day at Darlington Indoor Bowls Club to give it a go for myself.

I was met by some very friendly people and enjoyed the experience and decided I would like to take it further.

I attended an informal four week coaching course then took the plunge and joined the newcomers on a Thursday nights. It was very enjoyable.

That was nearly a year ago. I still play on Thursday nights with the newcomers and also Friday nights with the more experienced players who are always there to give friendly advice and pass on their knowledge. The age group is from the young to the older generation and all are welcomed.

If you were like me and looking for an enjoyable interest and a new way to make friends then why not come along and give it a go?

The club, which is situated at the Morrisons Centre in North Road, is having an open day on September 20, from 10am to 4pm.

You are sure to receive a warm welcome and an introduction to the world of bowls.

My only regret is that I did not take up this great sport earlier.

Kevan Higgins, Darlington.
