MORE than 100 people took advantage of the chance to see inside one of the Seamer wind turbines last Saturday.
As well as a film in the large tent which could be viewed while enjoying coffee, tea and a salad with a pork sandwich, there was a guided explanation inside the base of the number one turbine by the manager Paul Clements.
Costing £2 million each these turbines are in an ideal location for medium and low wind speeds, important for reducing the cost of generating electricity.
Each rotor is 92.5 meters long and to reach the top of the ladders by foot takes five minutes.
The blades can be tilted to take advantage of the wind direction giving an efficient pitching of the blades to maximise a high energy yield as well as providing a safe emergency brake system when required.
At the moment, there are 5,600 turbines in the UK and 1,100 off shore.
