SO Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin is considering giving drivers caught using a mobile phone at the wheel six penalty points instead of three, and raising the current fine from £100 to £150 (Echo, July 16).
Well, what a load of absolute rubbish. Those namby-pamby increases won’t make the slightest difference.
Deaths and serious injuries are caused by these idiots who flout the law and likewise by other idiots who drink and drive. I say, if caught, confiscate their car, ban them from driving for life and give them a ten-year jail sentence.
That will never happen, of course. The do-gooders would see to that, but it would have the desired effect, of that I am sure.
Geoff Gregg, Tursdale.
