AT last David Cameron’s persistent perseverance has gained some ground with Brussels and they are considering an adjustment to the number of immigrants allowed to settle in our country. His persistence was amply fuelled by a large number of senior ministers and public demand.

Should he be successful in his negotiations with Brussels, which I very much doubt, his standing in the world stage would blossom, particularly with rich countries within the EU, embroiled in similar discussions.

The proof will be in the pudding, to coin a phrase. Should Brussels refuse point blank to renounce its already laid down laws, thus leaving the situation stalemate, it will leave Mr Cameron no other alternative but to leave the EU immediately and impose our own self-governance.

Brussels, having taken this negative stance, have made it abundantly clear that it is not interested in “the Little Englanders’ problems”.

The downside of the imposed immigration free-for-all is that far too many migrants have already been allowed in this country, who will be difficult to deport and cost a great deal of revenue.

Brussels’ response will be interesting.
