Meningitis victim Lyndon Longhorne got his new artificial legs fitted today following an appeal backed by The Northern Echo.
Lyndon, 14, of Crook, County Durham, lost both legs and part of an arm when he was a baby.
We've been backing an appeal launched by Durham County Council chairman Brian Myers to raise £10,000 to buy Lyndon a new set of artificial legs.
The target was reached in double-quick time and Lyndon flew to Dorset today for the fitting.
Our reporter Rachel Wearmouth and photographer Chris Booth went with him to record the joyous moment.
A report and pictures will be published in tomorrow's paper and a video will appear on our website later in the day.
The next aim is to raise enough money to buy Lyndon a prosthetic arm.
