HARRY MEAD urges Brexiteers to keep the faith (Echo, Oct 18) following research that only 43 per cent would now vote Leave compared to 47 per cent who would vote Remain. He says that Brexit is nothing to do with trade or wealth but is about democracy.

What rubbish!

So, according to Mr Mead it doesn’t matter if we are all poorer or if UK businesses see their trade decline resulting in job losses.

Britain has recently slipped from being one of the best performing G7 economies to the worst and this is just one of the early consequences of the referendum.

He blames EU bureaucrats for increasing the price of a curry due to pesticide rules but neglects to say that the EU food safety body has done this because there is insufficient data to prove that the chemical, tricyclazole, used in India, does not harm our health or the environment.

As David Davis flounders in the negotiations and Boris the buffoon merrily skips towards the cliff edge with his lemmings, including Mr Mead skipping happily behind, our businesses are pleading for help and we are nearing the stage where they will have to start contingency planning for partial relocation into mainland Europe.

That will mean less money flowing into the Government coffers leading to austerity measures hitherto unheard of including in my opinion a clampdown on ‘benefits’ enjoyed by the elderly who largely voted Leave.

No wonder some are reconsidering their position.
