IN RESPONSE to Tom Teasdale’s response to the article about Dr Zak Uddin and e-cigs (HAS, Oct 18), while most of what was written is opinion, the fact is that not enough is known about the side-effects of e-cigs, as they’ve simply not been around long enough.

Dr Uddin’s opinion would appear to be that any addiction isn’t a good thing and the one thing we do know for certain that vaping replaces one addiction with another.

The suggestion that smokers should spend “a few hours in their local vape shop” and consult “the professionals” seems a strange suggestion to make to someone wanting to give up smoking.

The prefix “Dr” makes Dr Uddin a medical/health professional (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Member of the Royal College of Surgeons, Member of the Royal of General Practitioners, to list his credentials). Working in a vape shop makes a person a professional in selling vape products, not medical matters, but a few hours in their company would ensure you’d come out smelling of roses. Or vanilla.
