BISHOP Auckland town centre is adapting its local economy to meet the needs of modern living.

The future of the town lies in the support and growth of specialist retailers to attract both local shoppers and visiting tourists.

In support of this local councillors and a significant number of dedicated volunteers are working hard to promote the town and new business often against a background of intense negativity of local people.

I applaud the efforts of not just the fabulous Kynren volunteers but also those from the Auckland Castle Trust, the Town Team and other bodies working on a range of local projects to support the environment, business and future economy.

There are so many positive things happening and the patronage of Jonathan Ruffer is a once in a lifetime opportunity to push through a programme of regeneration.
