IT appears that Labour’s Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell is finding it very difficult to come terms with the reality of the election result when he claims that in “a few more weeks Labour would have won” (Echo, June 26).

Notwithstanding his reluctance to accept reality, it was very evident that Labour under Jeremy Corbyn had a good election campaign, while Tory leader Theresa May had a very bad campaign.

Many will also find Mr McDonell’s comments about the Grenfell Tower disaster distasteful to say the least. Using words like “murdered by political decisions” in relation to the Grenfell Tower victims isn’t helpful.

Political decisions on building and fire regulations may well show these decisions cut across party lines.
