What was your first car?

My first car was a Yugo, it was red and I took over the finance from my mum and dad. I think I paid about £1,000, which was left on it. It had a very memorable number plate F40 CGJ because I used to say she was my little Ferrari.

How many times did it take to pass your test?

I passed my test first time - oh yes folks! And I held a clean licence for 30 years until last year where I gained myself three points - so disappointed! I started to learn to drive with a guy called Malcolm in Woolwich and Plumstead. He told me he taught Kate Bush to drive and that he could be heard on one of her albums chatting in some collage sequence. I think it is true! I then bagged my first acting job up in Wigan at Wigan Pier as one of those living history actors where I continued my driving and passed my test.

Who would be your fantasy passenger and where would you go?

The Stig, left, and we would rally round the world.

What is your dream car?

I like cars that are big and beefy to drive like say Hummers, Range Rovers, big trucks, big people carriers, but I would love to have a go in a fast convertible and maybe one day have a nice Merc – dreaming is free!

Describe your driving style?

When I am on my own I do drive a bit different than when I have passengers. With passengers they are all precious cargo so I try to be considerate for their travel, but I do like to get the windows down and tunes on when I am on my own – it’s my thinking time!

Tell me an anecdote from your driving past?

One day, when I was in Eastenders it was summer and I had my driver’s side window down. I was listening to some music - not loud - and I was in a bit of traffic so was at a standstill. Out of nowhere a guy put both his arms in my window. I thought I was being mugged or something so I smashed his arms out the window like a Ninja Turtle. Turns out he was a fan and wanted to give me a cuddle! Fancy actually putting your arms inside someone’s car! What an idiot he’s lucky I didn’t proper land him one! He did apologise for frightening me and asked for a picture instead.

What are you listening to?

I listen to whatever the mood takes me that day. I love all music.

What are you driving now?

I drive a Chrysler PT Cruiser – it’s like a mini gangster looking car or bath tub on wheels. She’s near the end of her very long and faithful life so maybe next year who knows? I am still dreaming of the Merc!

  •  Cheryl is planning to list her PT Cruiser on auction site eBay from today with proceeds going towards the hospice charity ellenor of which she is a patron.
