What was your first car?

A Riley 1500. I don’t know how much it cost. My dad bought it for me. When you see one now they’re antiques! The brakes failed on it one day I went into the back of a furniture van. No-one was hurt but the car died.

How many times did it take to pass your test?

I passed first time. I had a driving instructor and took my test in his car. On the emergency stop my briefcase flew off the parcel shelf and hit him on the back of the head!

Who would be your ideal fantasy passenger and where would you go?

Billy Connolly - all round Scotland just to listen to him!

The Northern Echo: Tickets for Billy Connolly and Julian Clary at Southampton's Mayflower Theatre go on sale this Friday

What is your dream car?

Probably a new Range Rover. My mate’s got one and it’s fabulous but way out of my price range!

The Northern Echo: Tested - Range Rover Sport

How would you describe your driving style?

Careful these days! I’m not slow, but stick to the speed limits.

Tell me one driving anecdote from your past?

I was in panto and ran into the back of one of the dwarves in his car. He jumped out and shouted: “I’m not happy.” I said: “Well which on are you then?”

What are you listening to?

Depends on how long the journey is. If it’s a long way I find myself listening to Radio Four - things like Woman’s Hour.

What do you drive now?

At the moment a Range Rover Sport. I like a big comfortable car. I feel safe and I can carry sound equipment in it if I have to.
