What was your first car?
I learnt to drive in an old Fiat 500. It didn't take long to work out how to slide it around!
How many times did it take to pass your test?
I passed first time. My father taught me in anything from the forecourt that had fuel in it as he ran a car sales showroom.
Who would be your ideal fantasy passenger and where would you go?
Not so much a fantasy, but I love travelling with my family. We did a road trip across the USA last year between races in the RV and it was a very special time.
What is your dream car?
I like classics, like the Ferrari 355 and original 911s. There is just too much choice to make one selection, but I really like the BMW i8 and the new M3/4 – that’s a great track car.
How would you describe your driving style?
I’ve been told all sorts as you would imagine, but I would like to think I am smooth and technical in my racecraft.
Tell me one driving anecdote from your past?
We went to Mexico for the World Touring Car Championship and were hijacked by thieves posing as policemen and taken at gunpoint to a side road and relieved of all our cash. It was scary at the time, but we laugh about it now.
What are you listening to?
It’s a sing-along for me so anything my daughter usually insists upon. I do have special tracks for meditation and race preparation but they vary from week to week.
What do you drive now?
At home in Guernsey I drive a BMW i3, it’s perfect for the island – I have never had to put petrol in it! I also have a Land Rover Defender for doing beach stuff. When I’m in the UK, BMW loan me a different car every time so it’s nice to try out the range. I’m waiting for an i8 to appear on my list…
