YOU have probably heard of boutique hotels, but what about boutique lodges?

The KP, near York, now offers luxury self-catering accommodation for up to eight, and hotel-style rooms for couples, in wooden lodges scattered around the venue's championship golf course and 180 acres of woodland.

The website for the KP, which is named after the nearby hamlet of Kilnwick Percy, claims that the facilities have been "designed with complete relaxation in mind" - a lofty boast, but not inaccurate, if our visit was par of the course.

We stayed in the Huxtable Suite, a hotel-style room which featured a fabulous super king four poster bed - which was big enough to live in - and a cedar clad hot tub on the decking outside, which we practically did live in over the weekend. The room also came with a large flat-screen television with endless channels, a fridge, free wi-fi, sofa and an en-suite bathroom with double showers and double sinks.

Sitting in the hot tub, we had a great view across the course and were able to watch golfers chipping in and attempting to make their putts while we sipped fizz . The tub was partially covered so we were able to hole out amongst the bubbles even when it started to rain.

In the evening, we went for drinks and a meal at the Glasshouse Restaurant and Bar. There was a large wedding taking place upstairs, but other than give the place a lively buzz, it made no difference to us. Despite being in the middle of the countryside, the clubhouse had the feel of a trendy urban venue, only with added comfort and a more friendly welcome.

The restaurant menu wasn't huge but we still managed to find plenty to enjoy. Sarah started with a classic prawn cocktail with Marie rose sauce, gem lettuce, cucumber, tomato, brown bread & butter - an 60s classic but none the worse for that. I went for crispy duck salad with salt roasted cashew nuts, rocket and orange salad, caramel soy dressing, which was superb. For main, Sarah went for her favourite menu option, moules frites, which she put in her all-time top three. My slow roasted belly pork with dauphinoise potatoes, roasted root vegetables and a red wine jus was filling and delicious - the meat was melt in the mouth tender and the potatoes were rich and creamy.

We finished by sharing a non-nonsense Eton mess. All in all a great meal.

As we walked backed to our lodge and the waiting hot tub, we passed along a tree-lined track lit up by fairly lights and agreed we were having a completely relaxing time.
