WIDELY remembered for his eccentric Eurovision entry, Divine, in 2008, Frenchman Sebastien Tellier’s sixth album is a collection of songs which fit the traditional chanson form.
However, there’s something suitably and subtly oddball about what could be described as the chansons of a madman. Ma Calypso and L’Enfant Vert stand out, while Aller Vers Le Soleil delivers a pleasing refrain, proving that, while the tracks may not conform to conventions, they are always listenable. The glimpses of tropicalia and calypso, and frequent references to “soleil” leave you in no doubt that this is a summer album - and, more often than not, it’s a delight too.
