Violinist James Ehnes with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra gives a dazzling performance of Kachutaurian’s 1940 Violin Concerto – composed for and dedicated to David Oistrakh. The album is rounded off with Ehnes’ eponymous quartet performing Shostakovich’s 7th and 8th string quartets. Magnificent accounts of works by two Russian greats.
