TV funnyman Patrick Monahan is looking forward to coming home to Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt, on Saturday, May 17, as part of a 43-date national tour.

The live-wire Teessider was the TV studio warm-up man of choice for show hosts such as Jonathan Ross and Paul O’Grady. He then stepped in front of the cameras himself and won ITV’s Show Me The Funny in 2011.

His comedy appearances have taken in Adelaide, Abu Dhabi, Barbados, Spain, France, Luxembourg and Germany.

Now, he’s looking forward to bringing last year’s Edinburgh Festival hit Cake Charmer to Teesside for what he describes as his “hometown gig”.

“The tour’s going great, the audiences have been lovely, but I can’t wait to be back in Boro.

The town hall was always something to look up to when I was growing up, so playing there is always extra special as far as I’m concerned.

It always feels like a massive family party, a great big catch-up with people you’ve not seen for ages.

“I’m buzzing at the thought of seeing people from my old stomping grounds in Redcar, Guisborough, Stokesley, Stockton, Saltburn, Billingham, Boro, Whitby, Hartlepool and all over really. So I can’t wait for the gig to come around,” Monahan says.

Rob Guest of Middlesbrough Town Hall says: “There’s always a real sense of occasion when Patrick plays the Town Hall, a great big welcome home party for all the family with one of Teesside’s favourite sons. We’re looking forward to a great night here.”
