I CAN picture a scene from an old black-and-white romantic movie, a plush ballroom complete with high society, chain-smoking gentlefolk.

The song has a swaying, American bluesy feel, with an easy-going orchestral backdrop, including the excellent punctuation of the trumpet in particular. This, together with the gentle but determined lyrics gives the overall impression of someone prepared for a long emotional journey of perseverance. It is indeed a “glass half-full” track, a jelly-and-custard combination of Carrack’s classic, velvety tones and the enveloping richness of the Royal Philharmonic, taking this man’s talents to a new level.
