DURHAM’s Gala Theatre has unveiled Ben Ingles as the actor playing North Yorkshire’s most famous fictional vet for next month’s world premiere of James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small.
Ingles is a graduate of both the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Bretton Hall College in Leeds. His credits include Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet and Quintus in Titus Andronics.
London-based Henry Everett is the ebullient Siegfried Farnon. Before becoming an actor Everett worked as a barrister. Northumberland-born Jack Wharrier takes the calamitous role of Siegfried’s younger brother, Tristan.
James’ future wife, Helen Alderson, is to be played by Newcastle-based Samantha Morris, who previously appeared at Gala in 2009 as Norma in Be My Baby.
The rest of the ensemble is Scott Frazer, Mark Stratton, Stephanie Fayerman and Rachel Gay.
■ The production runs from Thursday, September 30 to Saturday, October 16. Tickets: £15 (£13 concessions), £12 first night, matinee and friends. Pay What You Like Night is Monday, October 4.
