CD REVIEWS: Terje Rypdal/Crime Scene (ECM 273 3215) There’s both exciting and moody playing and writing here by the guitarist, who is featured with the very impressive Bergen Big Band.

Guest soloists Palle Mikkelborg on trumpet, Stale Storlokken on Hammond B-3 and drummer Paolo Vinaccia, as well as members of the band, evoke the Sixties, but with a contemporary slant. Vinaccia has also added snatches of film script to provide the crime setting which worked very well.

Trudy Kerr & Ingrid James/Reunion (Jazzizit JITCD1054) The title describes it perfectly – a reunion of two jazz vocalists who used to sing together in Australia 20 years ago. Their voices blend very well and the repertoire mixes versions of jazz standards by Gerry Mulligan, Chick Corea and Bud Powell as well as more familiar pieces. Great support by their trio with Tom Cawley, Geoff Gascoyne and Seb Rochford.
