AN appearance by The Doves at Scarborough’s new Open Air Theatre on Saturday, August 7, has expanded into an all-day event. Guests now include Newton Faulkner and The Futureheads from Sunderland as the 6,500-seater venue throws open the doors at 1pm as Scottish rock band Kassidy get proceedings underway.

Described by Q Magazine as “a 23-year-old Fenderwielding Chrissie Hynde for the 21st Century” Tiffany Page is next on stage with her brand of radio friendly rock’n’roll.

Next come North-East rising stars Detroit Social Club, fresh from a prime spot opening performance at Glastonbury.

Wearside’s The Futureheads also get in on the act with their lively post punk, new wave influenced performances, plus an impressive output of three three albums and seven top 40 singles.

Newton Faulkner takes to the stage armed great big songs from his No 1 Debut record Handbuilt By Robots and follow-up Rebuilt By Humans. He’s known for his exquisite guitar playing and stunning live shows – watch out for his cover of Massive Attacks Teardrop.

Doves then headline with a 90-minute set, and arrive in North Yorkshire to celebrate the success of The Places Between: The Best Of Doves album, which was released in April.

As evening creeps into nightfall, this promises to be one of the must-see events of the summer.

The big night of music follows tomorrow’s gala performance by Kiri te Kanawa and Jose Carreras; Justin Live! (Saturday-Sunday); The Road to Edinburgh (The Big Comedy Campervan (July 30) and 80’s Rewind Festival (July 31).
