STEVE McDonald's marriage with ex-wife Karen was a stormy one, but his relationship with new squeeze Da-DooRon-Ronnie should carry a severe weather warning.

There are hurricane force emotions causing a deep depression over Weatherfield in Coronation Street (ITV1).

She doesn't approve of him playing cupid for fellow cabby Lloyd and his girlfriend Kelly. Da-Doo-Ron-Ronnie roars off in her cab, leaving Steve exasperated at her mood swings, which are more violent than a swing to the Tories in the polls.

After a night apart, they decide to call it a day. Streetcars boss Steve finds solace in the bottom of several pints of Newton & Ridley and the arms of Kelly. Meanwhile Da-DooRon-Ronnie is distracted while at the wheel of her taxi, fails to spot an object in the road and hits it. Then she leaves the scene of the accident.

The object turns out to be an innocent extra, who thought he'd been employed to sit in the Rovers supping a glass of dandelion and burdock only to find himself cruelly mown down by a hit-and-Ronnie driver. Keith has other matters on his mind but no roof over his head.

Charlie, the builder with the big toolbox, removes the new tiles he put on because Keith won't pay the bill.

Skinflint Keith should know better than to cross a tradesmen like Charlie. It's amazing the damage a workman can do with a chainsaw.

Keith could be left without more than a roof. Charlie's live-in lover, Terrible Tracy, is also on the receiving end of his twisted mind. Someone has hidden one of her expensive designer shoes. What good is one shoe unless you're Long John Silver, although even he would look out of place tottering around in a single red stiletto on the deck of the Hispaniola.

Squeaky-voiced Ashley is in court, not charged with impersonating a duck but fighting for custody of tugof-love son Joshua. Dr Matt says he's happy to submit to a DNA test to prove Josh is his child. Can pip squeak Ashley counter the GP's claims or will everyone think Donald Duck has entered the court? .

The road accident figures are soaring in Soapland with another highway incident in Emmerdale (ITV1). This time Titch the runaway dog ends up under the wheel of a car.

Once again, it's a woman driver responsible - Chas Dingle.

Titch's reluctant owner Del rushes the crippled canine to vet Paddy who performs an emergency operation.

On the dog, not Del. Although he does perform an exploratory examination of Del's mouth as the pair kiss over the operating table.

Along with road accident figures, the number of unemployed in Soapland is rising. Terry and Jean are sacked by Tom after he discovers they've been dating for ages.

This is bad news as it means Jean's daughter and Terry's ex-wife Dawn will find out and throw a strop (and a few punches too, probably). Instead she decides to take son TJ on holiday to Cornwall, although whether this is a treat or a punishment is unclear.

Grunt Mitchell is shocked in EastEnders (BBC1) when his third wife Carla turns up in Walford. He met her while on the run in Sarf America. Grunt isn't pleased to see her but she wins him round - it's amazing what a pointed gun will do.

Bad news for Sonia as her holiday on Lesbos comes to an end with lover Naomi throwing her out into the cold and wet, ie a puddle.

She doesn't know who to turn to - a man or a woman. Husband Martin doesn't want her back as he's cosying up to Carly.

Silly Billy overhears plan for his stag night and decides to take precautions. All a bit late really as bride-to-be Honey Honey is pregnant.
