Romano-SclavisTexier/African Flashback (Label Bleu LBLC6679)
Three of Europe's finest jazz musicians - Aldo Romano (drums and guitar), Louis Sclavis (clarinets and soprano saxophone) and Henry Texier (bass) in a third recording inspired by the photographs of Guy Le Querrec. Super package with a booklet containing 90 photographs.
Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey/The Sameness of Difference (Hyena HYN9343)
Originally an octet, but a trio since 2000, JFJO now comprises Reed Mathis on bass and electric guitar, Brian Haas piano and Jason Smart (drums) in a thoroughly integrated and powerful group. My way in was via Fables of Faubus and In Your Own Sweet Way but there are also covers of Bjork, Hendrix and Brian Wilson and several originals.
