TONIGHT at Newcastle’s Head Of Steam pub you can catch Motion Theory, the four-piece alternative-progressive rock band from Durham, before they head off on their second UK tour.
Performing songs from their forthcoming album, this band has a reputation for delivering the ingredients of a good night out: robust rockrhythms, soaring vocals and impressive guitar solos.
Motion Theory released a debut EP, Sunlight on the Sand, last year and did a mini-tour of the UK, gathering a loyal following along the way. Inspired by many types of music, from classical to punk, the four members of the band are individually award-winning instrumentalists and vocalists.
Combining this musicianship with a knack for producing solid rock songs, they have nevertheless taken time to settle on a preferred genre.
Lead singer Dom Main comments: “It’s taken us a while to develop our own style but we’re pretty excited because we think we now have the right sound – it is musically quite original, but also seems to make a lot of people happy. We can’t wait to take it on tour.”
Jamie Wesley, lead guitar, adds: “We’ve taken attributes from many of the genres we like to create this album – there are fast songs, slow tracks, intense, pop-like and bizarre sections, as well as some straight-down-the-line rock. We think there’s something for every rock fan, but it is definitely all Motion Theory.”
Their music has been compared to Incubus, Nine Inch Nails, The Police, and even Muse – but you’ll have the chance to make your own mind up tonight at the Head of Steam. Doors at 8pm. Tickets: £4.
