YOUNGSTERS across the Tees Valley are being targeted to join a National Citizen Service (NCS) scheme designed to bring 16 and 17-year-olds together in a skill-building trip.
During the October half-term, NCS will encourage teenagers to design and deliver a community project to benefit North-East communities during a three-night stay in the Lake District.
Would-be NCS graduates are expected to build their communication and leadership skills during their time away from home.
Aaron Metcalfe, a 17-year-old NCS graduate from Hartlepool, said: “What started as a few days away during the holidays has resulted in lifelong friendships, a newfound confidence in stepping out of my comfort zone and an amazing experience that will stay with me forever.”
The programme costs up to £50 to include food, transport and accommodation with options offered to young people who qualify for free school meals to take part for £10 or less.
Places are limited for the October NCS programme which leaves on Friday, October 21, or Monday, October 24.
