AN electric vehicle parts supplier is pushing to increase its international presence just months after being founded.

4EV, in Darlington, has launched a website in the Netherlands, which it hopes will be a stepping stone for greater recognition in the US.

Selling charging cables and accessories for electric vehicles, the business was created after owner Darren Pegram became frustrated at not being able to buy parts for his battery-powered car at a reasonable price.

He said: “There is a much bigger market for electric vehicles in the Netherlands than many other European countries, which is one of the reasons I was keen to expand there first.

“The response has been fantastic and it has given us great confidence that websites could be established for other countries too.”

The company sends cables from its Darlington head office as well as a storage unit in the Dutch city of Utrecht, and Mr Pegram has now bought a domain name to set up a US website.

He added: “The market in the Netherlands is big but the US is by far and away the biggest and we will be focusing our energy on getting an American site up and running.

“These are exciting times for the business and sometimes it’s hard to believe we are still in our first year of trading.

“We are very ambitious and passionate about electric vehicles, as are our customers, and it is this passion that allows us to deliver a first-class service.”
