SWEENEY Miller solicitors is supporting the countrywide campaign to Remember A Charity in your Will, which is backed by The Cabinet Office and the Law Society.
The awareness campaign is designed to encourage more people to take a moment to consider leaving a gift to charity when writing their will.
According to a government survey, 35 per cent of those asked said they wanted to leave money to charity in their will, but only 6 per cent of the UK currently actually do when it comes to doing the paperwork.
To help promote leaving a legacy, Sunderland-based Sweeney Miller has signed up to the Remember a Charity website, which is made up of a network of law firms across the UK actively highlighting the benefits of leaving part of an estate to good causes.
Paul Miller of the firm said: “Remember A Charity in your Will is a valuable campaign supported by the Government that gives back millions to good causes throughout the UK.
“By backing this campaign we hope it will help to highlight this important issue which many people think of and yet forget to do anything about, as well as remind people to check they have all their relevant will paperwork in place.”
Government Minister Brooks Newmark, added: “Legacies make up a significant proportion of revenue for the charitable sector and provide 13 per cent of all voluntary sector income. Remember A Charity in your Will is a valuable campaign supported by government that gives back millions to good causes throughout the UK.”
