A TEENAGE apprentice is driving forward a business thanks to a trip to the petrol station.

Elizabeth Close was filling the family car in Stockton when she saw an opportunity for her employer to advertise.

The 18-year-old works as an administrative assistant at property firm Adams Estates while completing a business and administration apprenticeship at Redcar and Cleveland College.

Her quick thinking paid off two-fold, with the company advertisings on pump and bosses paying for her driving lessons.

She said: “I saw there was advertising space on the pump dispensers and thought it was a great way for companies to get their messages out to local people.

“I investigated how much it would cost and thought it was a reasonable deal, so suggested it to my boss.

“It’s lovely to see the adverts in place.

“I had wanted to get a business apprenticeship for a long time and when I went for the interview with Adams everything just clicked.

“I love coming to work and once I finish my apprenticeship, I’d like to stay and progress up the ladder.

Jasmine Adams, owner of Stockton-based Adams Estates, added: “When Elizabeth came here she was very quiet and lacking in confidence, but we could see her potential.

“Her confidence is up and she is coming on brilliantly.

“For her to notice the advertising and go away and get prices and details shows great initiative.

“I thought it was a fabulous idea so we have given it a go, and in return, I have purchased a block of ten driving lessons for Elizabeth.

“It was the least I could do.”
