DETERMINED teenager Bethany Bennett is proof that if you really want something, you have to go out and get it.

The 17-year-old, who attends Redcar and Cleveland College, always had a passion to work in beauty therapy and literally went knocking on doors to find a business willing to take her on.

Her commitment was rewarded when Deborah Crosby, owner of U Beauty Therapy, in Eston, near Middlesbrough, gave Bethany her chance.

She said: “Bethany came into the salon one day and asked if I had any placements for an apprentice.

“She was bubbly, very chatty and I really liked her desire to find a job.

“I started the wheels in motion and we haven’t looked back since, Bethany is a great apprentice.”

Ms Crosby contacted Redcar and Cleveland College for guidance on hiring an apprentice, who initially put Bethany on a ten-week paid placement.

The placement proved extremely fruitful and earlier this year, Bethany was taken on as an apprentice and is being trained in facials, waxing, pedicures and manicures at the college.

Miss Bennett added: “My training is salon-based and very practical, and eventually I would like to work on cruise ships, so this is giving me a great foundation.”
