A MAKE-UP artist whose former clients include Sienna Miller and Sir Ian McKellen has returned from London to the North-East to set up her own business.

Amanda Bell moved back to Durham with her husband to start a family, and has set up on her own after a two-year career break.

Now a mother-of-two, Mrs Bell, who was head make-up artist at the Baftas for several years running, is aiming to target the bridal and fashion markets.

Born in Seaham, she joined French luxury cosmetics brand Lancome in 1999 after studying beauty therapy and theatrical specialist makeup at South Tyneside College.

In 2003, she was named Lancome Make-Up Artist of the Year and travelled to Paris to train with Lancome’s then international creative director, Fred Farrugia.

She worked as a make-up artist in flagship department stores Harvey Nichols, in Knightsbridge, and Selfridges, in Oxford Street, before being promoted to be Lancome’s national make-up artist and trainer in 2006.

She has also worked alongside celebrity hairdressers Nicky Clarke, Andrew Barton, Guido and Charles Worthington and created make-up looks for London Fashion Week and editorial shoots.

Clients have included Goldie Hawn, Pierce Brosnan, Jude Law and Dame Helen Mirren.

Mrs Bell got advice on developing her business from the North-East Business and Innovation Centre. She said: “The service I’m offering will bring a totally high-end experience for my clients and a holistic approach to make-up.

“They will be able to experience first-hand what it’s like to be a celebrity and have their own, personal make-up artist as well as have access to my advice through the whole process.”
