AN energy sector equipment maker has completed a project it says represents a world first.

InPipe Products has delivered a 90-inch cleaning tool for use at an Algerian power plant.

The business, based in Brompton-on-Swale, near Catterick, North Yorkshire, says it has also fought against the oil and gas industry’s downturn, with sales increasing across the Middle East and Asia.

The company makes machines known as pigs, which remove debris from energy pipelines, and its Algerian system, that also includes loading and launch equipment, will be used on a cooling water network to maintain flow and prevent contamination.

The Northern Echo reported in 2015 how the business had secured the deal.

At the time, officials said the pig, ordered by a South Korean conglomerate, was believed to be the biggest of its kind globally and would be the largest ever made by InPipe.

Now, speaking upon its completion, Peter Fretwell, director of pigging services, said it was a reflection of the business’ stature, adding the firm hopes to deliver its 90-inch cleaning equipment to further global operators.

He added: “In my 40 years in the industry, this is by far one of the largest and most technically complex projects I have ever been involved in.

“We believe we were awarded this contract based on our reputation as being the premier supplier of pigging products and services worldwide.

“Our experienced workforce, combined with design, manufacturing and testing facilities, makes us the supplier of choice.” Simon Bell, managing director, said the contract added further gloss to the firm’s progress, which has seen sales increase thanks to exports to six continents.

The business, which counts companies such as Esso, BP and Shell as clients, was previously based at nearby Colburn.

However, it shifted to a larger plant at Brompton-on-Swale, which Mr Bell says has been a catalyst for growth.

He added: “We are extremely pleased with the company’s performance over the last year and improved performance since relocating.

“We have showcased our ability to adapt to changing market conditions and deliver our world-renowned solutions to any part of the world.”
