AN energy sector management firm aims to write a new chapter in its history with a park deal.

The PX Group, headquartered in Stockton, is taking on Saltend Industrial Park from BP.

The 370-acre base, near Hull, provides energy, operations and maintenance services to companies such as Engie and Ineos.

Bosses say about 50 BP workers will move to PX Group in the changes, adding BP will remain one of the largest companies on the site.

The deal comes after PX was last year awarded a contract to operate and maintain the St Fergus gas processing plant in Aberdeenshire.

Ian Clifford, PX chief executive, said: “Saltend marks a major new chapter in the development and diversification of our business. “Our huge experience operating and maintaining plants on sites like this, and in the processes carried out, makes this an ideal opportunity.

“We will seek to further develop the park and attract more manufacturers.”

PX is also supporting MGT Power’s £650m Tees Renewable Energy Plant, based at Teesport.

The company previously revealed a contract to provide support during construction of the factory, which MGT says will create around 100 permanent full-time jobs and provide electricity for 600,000 homes by burning wood chips and pellets imported predominantly from the US.

It is due to send its first energy to the National Grid in 2020.
