A POPCORN manufacturer has created four new jobs following a £150,000 investment.

Consett Popcorn Company (CPC), based in County Durham, produce unique flavours of popcorn, becoming the UK’s first gourmet savoury and sweet popcorn manufacturer.

The company was founded in 2009 by husband and wife Richard and Catherine Furze and received funding from the North East Angel Fund.

The company operates from a manufacturing facility in Consett and have purchased larger equipment to distribute their produce UK-wide as well as exporting to Holland.

Catherine Furze, founder and director at CPC said, “Most of our growth in the past couple of years has been in the organic sector, which has been very successful for us.”

Jonathan Gold, managing director at Rivers Capital Funds who run the North East Angel Fund, said: “With their success in the organic food sector we’re looking forward to watching CPC continue to thrive in this space.”
