A CABLE cleat maker is supplying equipment for a huge Brazilian energy sector vessel.

Ellis says it will send cleats to Petrobras’ new P-66 floating, production, storage and offloading ship.

The company said the vessel will have the capacity to process up to 150,000 barrels of oil and six million cubic metres of gas.

Bosses added the P-66 is being built for use on pre-salt project development, with the agreement secured through Ellis’ Brazilian distributor, Polar Componentes e Sistemas Offshore.

The firm is based in Rillington, near Scarborough, with its cleats designed to restrain cables and withstand short circuit forces.

Tony Conroy, export director, said: “Our market is growing increasingly competitive.

“However, it’s extremely reassuring to still regularly be winning contracts of this magnitude as a result of our product quality and the reputation we enjoy across the world.”

Ellis previously secured a deal to send cleats to the King Abdulaziz International Airport, near Jeddah, in Saudi Arabia, which is expected to open next year and annually cater for about 80 million people.

It also has agreements to supply cleats and straps to the Areva European Pressurised Reactor, in China’s Guangdong province, and cleats to The Shamiya Haram, which is part of the holy mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Founded in 1962 by former RAF bomber pilot turned plumber Arthur Ellis, who flew more than 90 missions in the Second World War, the company is still based on the original site where he set up business.
