A MARINE decking maker has extended its onshore presence with flooring work in educational buildings.

Durastic carried out projects at the grade II-listed Liverpool Guild of Students and Hugh Baird College, in nearby Bootle.

The work was another coup for the firm, which previously oversaw contracts at the University of Sunderland’s Murray Library and Gateshead’s Sage concert hall.

Anthony Kent, Durastic contracts manager, said its Liverpool Guild project was part of a wider £14m site overhaul, with the company finishing a week ahead of schedule.

He revealed it fitted 1,400 sq metres of carpet tiles, with 18 rolls of carpet used for corridors and stairwells.

He added its Hugh Baird project included the supply and fitting of 600sq metres of carpet tiles.

The firm, based in Jarrow, South Tyneside, previously sent underlay and floor coverings to South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries for use on a BP North Sea oil platform and a platform for BP’s £4.5bn Clair Ridge oilfield, near the Shetland Islands.

Speaking about the educational work, Mr Kent said: “The Guild is a building of significant historical merit and is well-known and loved.

“It was a highly interesting project to be involved with.”

Durastic also has branches in Liverpool and Southampton, though manufacturing is centred on its Jarrow site.
