A CHARITY helping North-East youngsters affected by cancer is being supported by a law firm.

Muckle, in Newcastle, is backing Toma Fund.

The charity, based in Gateshead, helps children, teenagers and their families battling cancer.

Last year, the law firm raised nearly £10,000 for NSPCC North-East.

Andrea Thompson, Toma Fund founder, said the charity was started after her son Jordan fell ill with leukaemia and wanted to help others going through treatment.

Through his efforts and that of family and friends, it raised more than £400,000 towards a dedicated unit in Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary for teenagers living with cancer.

She said: “We couldn’t do what we do without the help of the community.

“The generosity has been amazing and its fantastic that Muckle has chosen to fundraise for us.

“All funds will go directly to support families who are experiencing financial difficulties caused by caring for and supporting their child through cancer treatment.

“They will also provide equipment for youngsters going through cancer treatment, and provide things like seaside trips and short breaks to try and help them forget their worries for a while.”

Hugh Welch, Muckle senior partner, added: “Toma Fund received the majority of votes in a our selection process, so staff will now help to make a real difference for them in the year ahead.”
