BUDGET airline Easyjet have unveiled the 200th addition to their fleet - a new £20m Airbus A320 at Newcastle Airport.

The aircraft, emblazoned with the company's distinctive orange livery, made its inaugural flight yesterday the sunnier climes of Faro.

The introduction of craft means the airline is now able to provide an additional 50,000 seats year out of Newcastle.

Destinations for the new craft include Alicante, Barcelona, Belfast, Bristol, Faro, Ibiza, Majorca, Malaga, Malta, Menorca, Nice and Paris.

The addition also coincides with the airline announcing it will begin a year-round service to Amsterdam Schiphol from Newcastle, with the inaugural flight departing on December 13.

Flights to Amsterdam will be up to five times a week, with fares starting from £22.99 one-way, including taxes.

Paul Simmons, the airline's UK director, said: "This move demonstrates that easyJet is committed to Newcastle International Airport and continues to invest in this key base for the benefit of passengers in the region.

"We are determined to make travel even easier and more affordable for all and a larger aircraft means we can make some of our most popular destinations more accessible to people in the North-East."
