DIGITAL experts Industrial Strength have scored a first for the region, by developing a fully-optimised mobile version of a website that helps job seekers keep in touch with the latest vacancies using their smartphones.

The move came after web analytics showed that the number of mobile visitors to the Concept Personnel site, which covers jobs in the advertising, marketing and digital sectors, had trebled in the past six months.

The mobile site, which is the first for a North-East recruitment company, analyses which handset is being used and directs the user to the best format for their model.

Users can view a list of the latest jobs across all categories, or search by job, keyword, or category. They can also directly apply for vacancies and sign up for news and social media feeds.

Simon Clayton, business development director at Industrial Strength, said: “Viewing a full website from a mobile can be a frustrating experience.

We knew from analytics what make of handsets were being used to access the website, so we were able to optimise the mobile version for all the most popular brands.

“The business logic we produced for the main website was all reusable, so it was simply a case of adding another presentation layer in the form of a mobile version.

“We have included some neat features too, if a user clicks on the phone number, the dialler opens up, and if they click on the location, their handset launches Google maps app, so it’s all very user-driven and simple.

It’s also a very fast site, so users can hop on and check the jobs whenever they have a minute during the working day or they are on the move.”

Concept’s managing director Jo Carter added: “For a job seeker, it’s very important to keep up to speed with latest vacancies as they come in.

“Candidates can now get all the really important stuff from the mobile site, but still click through to the main site if they need to access other information, or if they are using an iPad for instance.

“The jobs market has never been harder than it is at the moment, so the launch of our new mobile site is designed to make job hunting easier.”
