DURHAM-based electrician EEW has gone out of business, with the loss of 25 jobs.

The sub-contractor was heavily dependent on orders to undertake shop re-fitting work, but the dramatic downturn in the retail sector which this month claimed menswear chains Officers Club and Henleys, has signalled the end of the firm, which was set up in 1992.

EEW, of Evans Business Centre, on Belmont Industrial Estate, Durham, has called in administrators KPMG after suffering a prolonged period of poor trading.

Last night, a spokesman for KPMG was unable to confirm the scale of EEW’s debts, but said there is no chance of the business being sold as a going concern and that staff were being made redundant with immediate effect.
