STEEL firm Corus, employing thousands of workers in the North-East, has changed its name to Tata Steel.
Corus, which was formed in a merger between British Steel and Dutch firm Hoogovens in 1999, was bought by Indian company Tata Steel in 2007, but has continued to trade under its previous name.
Tata Steel Europe chief executive Kirby Adams said it was the right time to enter a new era.
The Tata Steel name and logo will begin to appear on the company’s documents, plants and vehicles, but it will be a gradual process, the company said.
Mr Adams said: “This brand migration will lead to the Tata Steel name becoming much more prominent and widely-recognised across Europe and will reinforce our sense of belonging to the Tata Steel family.”
The firm still employs about 3,000 staff in the North-East despite the mothballing of Teesside Cast Products, near Redcar, in February.
