A NORTH-EAST student has been named among the best apprentices in the country.

Jack Hall, 15, was named runner-up in the young apprentice of the year category of the national Apprenticeship Awards.

Jack, from Rowlands Gill, in County Durham, was recognised for combining his studies with training towards his Olympic dream and inspiring others to get fit, be active and improve their lifestyles.

Jack – the Regional, British and National under-16 BMX Series champion – started the Young Apprenticeship programme in 2008, and as well as studying for his GCSEs, he is studying for a Btec first diploma in Sport at Gateshead College, has completed a number of work placements and delivers fitness classes at his school and local gym.

Jack said: “It’s amazing to be selected from all the apprentices nationwide to be a finalist of the National Apprenticeship Awards. My Young Apprenticeship helped me understand what working life is all about. I’ve grown in confidence and when I do get a job I’ll know what the world of work is really like.”
