A FAMILY-RUN steel fabrication company is aiming to “secure a lot more work” after picking up a contract to support a £36m entertainment hub.

Finley Structures has a deal to fabricate and erect a 960-tonne frame for Hull Venue.

Bosses say the 3,500-seat building will host music gigs, comedy acts and touring performers, as well as sporting events, conferences and exhibitions.

Finley, based in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, is already on site, with the Humberside work, which includes the installation of concrete stairs, lift shafts and terrace units, complementing further agreements in the North-East.

They include a 614-tonne project for Carillion Construction, in Sunderland, and support for a Durham City leisure development, while further afield the business is working on a 283-tonne scheme to build a Hilton Hotel in Lincoln.

Jim Graham, Finley Structures’ operations manager, said the business was moving forward at pace, with further contracts in the pipeline.

He said: “Hull is another phoenix from the flames type of project.

“There’s a lot of redevelopment going on as part of its 2017 City of Culture programme, and it’s another good example of how we’re helping to transform an old site into a new venue.

“It has already been a hugely positive start to 2017, which gives us a strong start to the new financial year from April.

“We’re hoping to secure a lot more work in the coming months to further boost our order book for the year ahead.”

Earlier this year, the company, which built the steel frame for Aycliffe trainbuilder Hitachi Rail Europe’s £82m factory, revealed it would work on a 465-tonne project to provide a Lancashire haulage firm with a new distribution centre.

However, a main driver of its recent growth has been the education sector, with bosses previously securing a deal to work on a 640-tonne scheme at Doncaster Sixth Form College.

It has also overseen a 260-tonne contract at Leeds’ Roundhay School and a 560-tonne project at Ryde Academy, on the Isle of Wight.
