MORE than 300 vacancies will be up for grabs at the third SSI Task Force jobs fair set up after the Redcar steelworks closure.

More than 30 employers, along with training providers and colleges, are expected to take part in the event, held at Middlesbrough College on Wednesday, January 27 from 10am to 3pm.

Companies recruiting at the event include Preston’s of Potto, ElringKlinger (GB), NCS Energy Recruitment, Barclays, AXA, Cleveland Police and RMS Recruitment.

More than 200 people have already found work as a direct result of the previous two SSI Task Force jobs fairs, held last year. But figures revealed earlier this week showed that about half of the workers who were made redundant when SSI Redcar closed are still looking for employment.

Chair of the SSI Task Force and chief executive of Redcar and Cleveland Council, Amanda Skelton, said: “We are still seeing a lot of interest from companies keen to employ former SSI and supply chain workers.

“The Jobs and Skills Fair is a great opportunity to match people looking for work with available jobs. Our training funding is very flexible and can help people update their existing skills or retrain for a different career.”

Employers can also benefit from wage subsidy funding through the SSI Task Force Jobs and Skills Fund, designed to encourage businesses to create new job opportunities. Funding will support businesses to employ former SSI employees, supply chain workers affected by the closure of SSI and spouses or partners of workers, who are living in the same household. The scheme will subsidise the cost of employment for positions made available for a minimum of three years.
