NORTH-EAST exporters will need to cast their nets farther afield is they want to tap into fast growing markets, industry experts said yesterday.
With most European economies tipped to be sluggish next year, companies should shift their focus towards Africa and Asia to find double digit growth opportunities, David Coppock, UKTI regional director told The Northern Echo.
“Europe remains hugely important to this region as an export destination,” he said. “But parts of Africa and Asia are set for 10 or 20 per cent growth and we are here to help them exploit opportunities.
“I strongly believe that most companies can and should export – from single-owner operations to large corporations. If you are successful in the UK, there is no reason why you can’t sell abroad, if you do your research and plan properly.”
Mr Coppock was speaking at UKTI’s ExploreExport roadshow, at Newcastle Racecourse, where more than 60 experts from across the world shared their expertise with local businesses.
