A PROTECTIVE coatings company is making redundancies.
3M, in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, will axe 12 jobs after a review of its electronics and energy division.
The company, which employs about 50 members of staff, makes coatings for steel pipes in the oil, gas, rail and water industries, and revealed the decision after consulting with workers.
Bosses say workers will leave by the end of December, with the cuts affecting staff in its sales and marketing, research and development and customer service divisions.
Steve Adams, 3M electronics and energy business director, said: “It is always difficult to make decisions that affect people's livelihoods and I would like to express my sincere thanks for the commitment and professionalism everyone has demonstrated throughout the consultation period.”
The firm has a sister plant in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, which employs about 330 workers and is the US company's global personal protection headquarters.
A flagship factory for industrial face masks, it sends products to manufacturers in countries such as Russia, Turkey and Poland.
