PASSENGERS were left shaken after the Arriva bus they were travelling on had to brake sharply in Bishop Auckland this afternoon (January 12).

More than half a dozen elderly people were involved in the incident, at about 3.30pm, including one woman with a heart condition who was treated at the scene by paramedics.

A police spokesman said it was not clear why the bus had had to brake at the crossroads at South Church Road and Newgate Street.

He said: “The bus has had to brake sharply at the lights and that’s caused a few of the passengers to suffer minor injuries.

“An ambulance was called for one lady who appears to be suffering from an established heart condition and two or three passengers have bruises.”

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
