A WOMAN battling cancer has bounced back from brain surgery to produce an inspirational song with all proceeds going to charity.

Sue Atkinson, who forms part of the duo 2sum with friend Martyn Banks, has already raised several hundred pounds for Cancer Research UK through her song Take My Hand.

The cash will be directed specifically to brain cancer research.

Mrs Atkinson, 53, of High Pittington, near Durham City, said: “I have been living with cancer for more than 11 years now.

“It started off as ovarian cancer and unfortunately when you have that sometimes you end up with tumours in different parts of your body.

“I have been through five sets of chemotherapy and have various procedures and three big operations, including brain surgery about six weeks ago, when they managed to remove all the tumour they could see.

“The operation was very successful. Everyone is amazed at how I bounce back every time. “

She added: “It’s because I have a positive outlook on everything. I decided to write an inspirational song.

“We have produced a single and put it on Youtube. We have raised £500 so far and have been pledged a further £200."

Mrs Atkinson, who is married to Peter, said: “We are inviting people to listen to our song on Youtube which can be found by searching for Take my Hand singing out for Brain Cancer.

“If they like the song I am inviting them to make a contribution justgiving.com/sueatkinson99.”

Mrs Atkinson and Mr Banks will be taking CDs of the song on a tour tomorrow (Saturday, August 9).

They will perform at South Hetton Independent Methodist Church, at 10.30m, Horns Garden Centre Dixon Estate, Shotton Colliery at noon and at Poplar Garden Centre in Hall Lane, Shincliffe, at 1pm.
