THE Government is investing £826,000 in drug and alcohol recovery services in the North-East.
The capital funding is being distributed by Public Health England via local authorities to support projects which help people to overcome dependency.
Dr Roberta Marshall, PHE North East Centre Director, said: ‘The quality and range of applications submitted was impressive.
‘The schemes put forward show the passion and creativity the drug and alcohol treatment sector consistently puts into supporting recovery.’ Successful initiatives in the North-East include a project to develop a one-stop recovery hub in Stockton that serves the local community.
There will also be investment in a housing project in Middlesbrough that delivers ‘move-on’ accommodation for people in recovery, with a particular focus on housing and employment options.
Capital funding ranging from £22,660 to £200,000 is also going to projects in County Durham, Newcastle, Hartlepool and South Tyneside This is the fourth wave of government capital investment funding to support drug and alcohol recovery.
It follows Department of Health capital funding in 2007, 2009 and 2010 managed by the former National Treatment Agency.
