Bishop Auckland lost only their second league game of the season and also missed the chance to go top of the ENL table when they were beaten 2-1 at Newcastle Benfield tonight.

Benfield took the lead after 32 minutes when a shot by David Robinson was parried by Bishops’ keeper Nick Liversedge, only for Paul Brayson to tap in the rebound.

But Bishops levelled soon after half time, when Shaun Ryder flicked in a cross by Chris Winn.

However, Benfield went back in front on 71 minutes when Brayson crossed for unmarked sub Jake Orrell to tap in. Bishops piled on the pressure in the closing minutes, and Andy Johnson missed a great chance to equalise.
