Shildon’s hopes of a good run in the FA Cup were dashed when they were beaten 4-1 at Tadcaster Albion on Saturday.

Shildon were hoping to pull off a shock and have a good run in the competition like they did last season, but they were always up against it once Joe Lumsden gave the EvoStik League East an early lead.

Lumsden made it 2-0 just before half time after he played a 1-2, but Shildon player-manager Danny Moore gave his side hope with a header from Keith Graydon’s free kick.

But Billy Whitehouse and Casey Stewart added further goals and knocked Shildon out.

Shildon manager Danny Moore said; “We conceded goals at the wrong times. We were in it at 2-1 and went for it but the best team won on the day and wish them all the best.”

Shildon are in action this morning in the league (kick off 11am) against Newton Aycliffe at Dean Street.

West Auckland went out, beaten 1-0 at Newcastle Benfield.

Benfield keeper Andrew Grainger made two good saves in the first half, but it was team mate Dale Pearson who won the game for Benfield with a left foot volley from 12 yards out after 58 minutes.

West Auckland manager Gary Forrest said; "We're frustrated. We dominated the ball without creating enough. I told the players at half time that Benfield's only chance to score would be from a setpiece, so not to give away silly free kicks. Their goal came from exacty that."

The most remarkable game in the Cup was Sunderland RCA coming back from 4-0 and 5-2 down to draw 6-6 at Clitheroe, who had two men sent off in a brawl in the second half. RCA scored all their goals in the second half after they were 4-0 down at half time.

Whitley Bay also scored six against Barnoldswick to put them into the next round.

Morpeth beat Marske 1-0 in their all EvoStik League East clash, while Michael Mackay and Michael Sweet both scored two apiece for Consett in their 5-2 home win over Seaham Red Star.

Dunston UTS beat Pontefract from the EvoStik League by 4-2, while Guisborough will replay on Wednesday after a late goal gave them a 2-2 draw at Albion Sports.

Blyth AFC lost heavily at Knaresborough, which might hasten a decision on whether they fold or not. They have revealed that they are unsustainable and might not have much longer to exist. They are due to play at home - -which is their groundshare at Portland Park -- to Whitley Bay in midweek.

In the first division of the Northern League, Newton Aycliffe ended Bishop Auckland’s unbeaten start to the season when they beat them 1-0 at Moore Lane.

Aycliffe got the winner through Aaron Ramsbottom from close range, but in the second half Bishops received their fifth red card of the season when Chris Winn was dismissed.

Newton Aycliffe manager Deano Browne said; “They were a great three points for the club. Eight players unavailable shows the strength and character of the squad. We were the better team first half and if we had taken our chances we could have been a bit further ahead. Bishop changed their shape and were the better team in the second half and could have taken something from the game, we defended well as a unit and saw the game out.”

Bishop Auckland manager Ian Chandler said; “We’re very disappointed in the result and we seemed happy to allow them time to play in the first half. Second half we dominated without creating any clear chances, we possibly deserved a draw but wasn't meant to be. It was a ridiculous sending off today from a very over-zealous referee.”

Hebburn are now top of the table after they beat Ryhope CW 3-1, with former Darlington striker Graeme Armstrong scoring twice.

Stockton’s unbeaten record was ended when they lost 3-2 at North Shields, while Penrith collected their first point of the season in a 3-3 draw with Ashington.

In the second division, Chester-le-Street are now the only club with a 100 per cent record after they won 3-0 at Durham. Recent signing Jai Grant scored twice for Chester in the first half – one of them a 35 yarder – with Kieran Megran getting the other.

Chester-le-Street manager Colin Wake said; “We never really got going after scoring really early in the game, but we didn't do enough to win the game easily. Durham played some decent stuff but lacked a cutting edge and never worked my keeper. Pleased to keep the run going but definite areas for improvement if we want to maintain it.”

Durham manager Mike Weston said; “It was a lot better performance even though we got beat. I couldn’t ask more from the lads, we had nine missing. We go again next week and hope to have one or two new faces in the club.”

Durham have scored just once in their six games this season.

Esh Winning punctured the 100 per cent record of Billingham Town by coming back from 4-2 down to draw 4-4 at Waterhouses.

Esh Winning manager Tony Boakes said; “We’re really pleased with the performance, it was a cracking result. Obviously from a manager’s point of view, letting 4 goals in at home but going 4-2 down and getting back into game I’ve got to be happy with the team’s character with eight players missing.” Esh were level 2-2 at half time with Leon Kane and Conor Halpin on target, but after Town went 4-2 up after 72 minutes, Esh hit back with goals by John Furtune and Max Stoker.

Northallerton are now up to fifth in the table after they beat West Allotment 3-0 at Ainderby Road.

Chris Emms opened up the defence for Nicky Martin to score the first midway through the first half, then Chris Dickinson dribbled through the Allotment defence and set up Martin for the second. Stephen Jackson finished off Northallerton with ten minutes left.

Northallerton manager Darren Trotter said; “The reaction has been good to our defeat last Saturday with two very solid professional performances since. We managed the game very well, took our chances when they came and restricted them to long range efforts. Everyone worked hard to get the result and clean sheet we wanted.”

Crook Town missed a chance to go fifth after being held to a 1-1 draw at Ryton.

Christian Holliday gave them a third minute lead, but Ryton levelled deep into second half stoppage time through Mason Stephenson.

Crook Town manager Jamie Tunstall said; “Our overriding reaction was that we're disappointed. Ryton is a really tough place to go but we scored early and managed the game ever so well. They scored late into injury time with their only real chance. The lads were gutted walking off but a point is a point and we move on.”

Tow Law had a bad day, beaten 4-3 at Bedlington, for whom Stephen Young scored a hat trick inside the first 18 minutes. Lawyers got back to 3-2 with goals by Alex Goundry and Dale Milburn, but Darren Riddell made it 4-2. Dan Kirkup scored late for Lawyers.

Tow Law manager Steve Murray said; “We had an horrendous first 15 minutes in which we let three goals in, and gave ourselves a mountain to climb.”

Willington went down 2-1 at Jarrow for their third defeat of the season. James Connor put Jarrow into the lead, and after Willington’s Lewis Milner was red carded, Kris Allen scored from the spot. Mattie Moffat scored Willington’s late consolation.

Brandon were beaten 2-1 at home by Thornaby, Ashley Adams scoring for them two minutes from time. They have still to win a league game this season.

In the other games, Easington lost their 100 per cent record when they were beaten 2-1 at Billingham Synthonia, while lowly Washington stunned Heaton Stannington by 4-1 for their first win of the season.

The two newcomers to the league, Redcar and Birtley, drew 1-1 at Green Lane.
